EYFS have been in full action this week as the children have delved into their first topics of the academic year. Pre-Nursery have been introduced to a special bear who sees lots of different coloured animals in the book ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear what do you see?’ by Eric Carle. Through sound exploration the Pre-Nursery children are learning to identify the animals from their sounds and make that those sounds using their voice.

Nursery have begun to identify community helpers in their topic ‘People who help us’. They have been naming the key helpers such as policemen, firemen and doctors and learning about the roles they play in the community. Through exploration play Nursery have been able to understand the important part these people play in our communities around the world.

The introduction to letter sounds has been a highlight in Reception as they have eagerly been learning the sounds ‘a’ and ‘s’ make ready for them to learn how to read and write. Along with this phonically fun Reception have whizzed into space to meet a new friend Beegu to begin their topic ‘The world around us’ and in mathematics learned all about repeating patterns.

It has been a busy week for us all here in EYFS and it has been a joy to see all the children having fun and engaged in their learning. I look forward to seeing what happens next week.
