We have had another busy week in EYFS as children make their final preparations for our Winter Concert next week alongside our busy learning in class. We look forward to welcoming you into school next Monday 13th December as the children showcase their wonderful singing and dancing.
Pre-Nursery
This week Pre-Nursery have been exploring their sense of smell. Using phrases that we learnt last week, we used “I like” and “I don’t like” to describe different smells. We made Christmas smelling playdough that we will use next week in our play. Pre-Nursery have also been very busy practicing our Winter Concert and we cannot wait to share it with you next week.
Nursery
We were very busy this week in Nursery continuing to practise for our Winter Concert along with learning about the changes in season.
The children have worked very hard to learn the words for their class song and I do hope that you enjoy hearing this next week.
In class this week the children learnt about different words that begin with the same sounds and we also developed our mark making skills making Winter themed pictures with different marks and shapes. In Maths we continued to count and develop our number recognition along with some fun measuring, developing our use of measuring words such as ‘longer’ and shorter.’
Reception
This week in Reception we have started to look at Christmas, which many of the children are very excited about! They decorated their very own Christmas trees, coloured in many designs associated with this festivity and of course, we have been practicing very hard for our performance in the Winter Concert!
In Phonics this week, we have been revising all our letter sounds and have introduced the last two tricky words of the term, ‘in’ and ‘into’. The children are starting to form their very own sentences with some support and are continuing blending simple words with the sounds their have learnt so far! We read a story, “The Christmas Collar” which was a delightful Christmas story centered around the idea of giving back items to its rightful owners and helping each other. The children truly enjoyed it!
In Maths this week, we have been reviewing some of the lessons we covered throughout the term. Some children enjoyed colouring in 2D and 3D shape worksheets, helping them to identify a certain shape and shade it in a certain colour. We played counting games and worked on some addition challenges. We also looked at symmetry; what it means, where we can find it and the children got to design their very own symmetrical pictures.
