¡Hola! Britannica, we recognise the significance of Spanish, a language spoken in over 20 countries worldwide. With approximately 580 million speakers, Spanish is the second most spoken language globally by the number of native speakers, following Mandarin Chinese. This highlights the fact that learning Spanish is not only enjoyable but also incredibly beneficial for our students' futures.

In our Spanish classes, we have explored a wide range of practical topics. From basic vocabulary to useful phrases for everyday situations, our learning journey has been enriching. Last term, Year 3 focused on clothing, where students had a great time dressing up stick figures. This term, we will delve into the culture of Spanish-speaking countries, learning about their art and cuisine, which will enhance our students' understanding of the language and foster connections with diverse cultures.

In Year 4, we virtually traveled to Seville, exploring iconic landmarks such as La Giralda. Following this exploration, students drew and described their own cities. Currently, they are creating posters that represent various creatures or people, labeling different parts of the body. They are excited to present their creations to the class, with some winning entries to be recognised!

In Year 5, we are focusing on emotions and beginning to explore grammatical aspects of the language, such as gendered nouns. It is particularly inspiring to see students engaged while watching short stories in Spanish, such as “El doctor de las emociones,” which sparks meaningful discussions about emotional well-being.

To enhance our learning experience, we incorporate games, stories, cartoons, songs, and projects to make practicing Spanish enjoyable. We often play word games and memory challenges that reinforce vocabulary and grammatical structures. These activities not only promote education but also encourage teamwork and collaboration. Our students especially enjoy participating in games both inside and outside the classroom, often rising to the challenge of friendly competition.

Singing songs in Spanish has further improved our students' pronunciation and comprehension. Music is an effective tool for remembering new vocabulary and phrases, and it is delightful to hear our Year 3 students greeting others around the school using Spanish songs.

One of the most enjoyable projects Year 3 has completed is a colorful storybook titled “Mi mundo de colores,” inspired by a story created by Pocoyó, our favorite Spanish cartoon character.
