As we embark on the Spring Term of 2025, we are excited to welcome back our students and families to another enriching chapter in our primary community. This term promises to be filled with engaging learning experiences, creative projects, and exciting topics across all year groups.
Year 1
In Year 1, students will kick off the term with a "Talk for Writing" unit, starting with a captivating hook and team-building games, integrating their learning with ICT as they recreate their stories using Scratch Jr.. Their history topic will introduce them to significant explorers, culminating in a fun trip to the Ice Park. In Science, the children will learn about weather and even create their own weather measuring tools.
Year 2
Year 2 is set to dive into "Talk for Writing" using the text The Tin Forest by Helen Ward. This engaging approach will help students develop oral storytelling skills and create their own versions of the story, emphasising peer assessment and feedback. The focus on non-fiction will lead to the creation of a sea creatures fact file, while poetry lessons will inspire the children to write monster poems.
Year 3
Year 3 will embark on an exciting cross-curricular project exploring Europe. Students will write non-chronological reports while investigating geographical features, cultures, and significant landmarks across the continent. Their Maths lessons will introduce new units of measurement and fractions, while Science will focus on light, shadows, magnets, and forces, providing hands-on experiences that enhance their understanding of these essential concepts.
Year 4
In Year 4, students will begin a new English unit centred around Dr. Seuss's The Lorax, which ties in beautifully with their sustainability topic. They will innovate the story while learning about environmental responsibility. The sustainability theme will also extend to Science, where students will investigate electrical components and build circuits, further supported by ICT resources to enhance their learning experience.
Year 5
Year 5 is set to explore faraway fiction, analysing characters and settings through classic tales like Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters. They will work towards crafting and illustrating their own fictional tales
As we begin this new term, we are thrilled about the learning opportunities ahead. We look forward to seeing our students thrive, explore, and create as they engage with their curriculum. Welcome back, everyone!
