I had the pleasure of meeting Reception parents this week and share with them the different ways we will be preparing their children to start Year 1 next academic year. Parents were reassured by the different steps we are putting in place to help the children, as well as the similarities that already exist between the year groups and how these will be further developed.
We have seen an increase in children cycling to and from school, which is a great way to keep healthy and help the environment. However, please do encourage your child to bring and wear a helmet whilst cycling to keep them safe.
I hope you and your family have a relaxing long weekend and we look forward to seeing the children back to school next Thursday; please note there will be no ASAs next week due to the shorter school week.
Read on to find out about some of the learning taking place in Primary this week…
Year 4 have been busy completing a task set by Mr Farrell! They were tasked with creating a new outdoor learning space but had very specific rules to follow about how much space they could use. Luckily, they have been learning all about area of rectilinear shapes in Maths, so they were able to create and suggest various outdoor spaces that matched Mr Farrell’s requirements. I wonder which one he might choose…
Year 1 have been enjoying making the most of our outdoor classroom now that the sun is shining more; the children enjoyed exploring this area and making their own land art inspired by Andy Goldsworthy.
Meanwhile, if your child is in Year 3 and they have been playing tricks on you, Mr and Mrs Twit are = to blame! The children have had a wonderful time creating a disgusting menu using noun phrases, acting out the tricks and writing a newspaper report on everything that has happened!
Year 2 have been busy in their Science lessons gathering and recording data from surveys to help them think of ways to persuade people to use less energy.
Whilst, Year 5 have continued to focus on short story writing and taking inspiration from the scary stories they have read are creating some rather chilling and atmospheric stories.
Lastly, 6A have been developing their knowledge and key skills within Swimming; including improving their underwater skills, swimming strokes and breathing techniques. They have also focused on their muscular and aerobic endurance by seeing how far they could swim and all were able to swim further than they did at the start of the year! 6B have been learning how to play badminton, including the different techniques to hit the ball, positioning and now learning the different tactics and rules for singles and doubles gameplay.
