The children returned after the holidays full of enthusiasm and ready to learn. We made the most of the nice weather spending lots of time learning in the outdoors.
In Pre-Nursery we have been helping the children to listen out for their name and supporting them to learn their friend’s names. During carpet sessions we have been singing, ‘What’s your name?’ whilst passing a teddy bear around the circle. We have been consolidating our learning of colours, extending our knowledge, independence of naming and matching each colour in ‘Brown Bear Brown Bear’. The children have enjoyed playing in the dark den where they have been exploring and naming different colours.
It has been great seeing everyone back in Nursery this week. The children have been settling back into their daily routines and welcoming some new friends into the class!
Nursery have been getting creative this week with paints and other types of mark making. The children hand painted some fantastic Crocodiles as well as working on their pencil control skills by tracing Zig Zags to create crocodile teeth.
Another busy week of learning for Nursery.
This week in Reception we continued to learn lots of new concepts while playing and having fun. We read and talked about the story, ‘The Colour Monster,’ which introduces emotions alongside a colour. The children learnt to express some emotion and make their own emotion monsters and jars. This will be part of their continuous learning, to identify emotions and what we can do when we feel them.
In Phonics we learnt two new letter sounds ‘i’ and ‘n’ and took part in several Funky Finger activities to help us to remember the letters. They also learnt the new tricky word ‘go’ and tried to make full sentences. We continued practicing the letter sounds and the children read and wrote simple three letter words. As part of Maths this week we learnt and practiced positional language and had fun placing objects in different places in order to understand their position in space.
We continued our Space topic and the children enjoyed painting their paper-mache planets, learning more facts about space and started making their very own paper plate solar systems. Next week will be our last week learning about Space as we will move on to our next Topic.
We look forward to our Parent/Teacher meetings next week where we can share the progress that the children have made this term and share the next steps in their learning.
