It has been a wonderful week in Early Years celebrating Chinese New Year. The children have been very enthusiastic whilst joining in with activities and sharing their own knowledge about this this special time of year. It was fantastic to see all of the children in their traditional dress and red clothing today.
On Tuesday Nursery Class invited the rest of Early Years to join them for a Tiger Tea Party where we had the chance to try some strawberry tea and yummy treats whilst celebrating together. It was lots of fun!
The children have also been very busy working on their class topics.
Pre- Nursery
This week our rhyme has been, ‘Miss Polly had A Dolly.’ Pre-Nursery have been exploring looking after a doll and took on the role of a doctor. We have focused on the keywords ‘Dolly, Sick, Doctor, Bag, Hat, Bed, Pill, Bill’. Pre-Nursery have developed their understanding of caring for others through looking after our class dolls in the doctor surgery, they have learnt to dress them and clean them and most of all be an amazing doctor! This week we have also been celebrating Chinese New Year, the year of the Tiger. We were invited by Nursery to a Tiger tea party where we enjoyed cake, fruit and some yummy fruit tea.
Nursery
Nursery have enjoyed reading the story, ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea,’ this week; they enjoyed listening to this story very much! We talked about what happened in the story and the used pictures to retell parts of the story in our own words. The children had lots of fun acting out having a tea party in our Home Corner during choosing time.
In preparation for our Tiger Tea Party, we made our own 'tiger party hats' and wrote invitations to invite Pre-Nursery and Reception to join us. In Maths, the children continued to develop their use of words relating to capacity including, 'full' and 'empty' whilst helping the tiger to make delicious tea and cakes. We also completed activities in our water area and created some amazing cupcakes and tea pots in our Art Room.
Reception
Reception performed fantastically well in their Chinese New Year performance and we hope you all enjoy watching it as much as we did. We will keep you updated on the release date of the video.
This week in Phonics, the children have been practicing how to write simple words with the letter sounds they have learnt so far as well as making their own silly sentences.
During Maths, we collected data and learnt how to create a ‘tally chart’ from the information collected. We found out lots of things such as what Reception’s favourite dinosaurs and foods are and displayed this information in our own tally charts.
We continued with our Dinosaur Environment boxes ongoing project this week and also celebrated Chinese New Year. The children looked fabulous in their traditional Chinese dress. We read the story of Chinese New Year, discussed what we do during Chinese New Year and made our own tigers. We also thoroughly enjoyed our EYFS Tiger Tea Party.
