It has been wonderful to welcome the children back into school this week where they have enjoyed taking part in lots of activities both indoors and outside. Next week we look forward to our Parent Teacher Meetings, as teachers it is important for us to work in collaboration with parents to share your child's progress, ensuring the best outcomes for every child.

Pre-Nursery
This week we have been focusing on the Nursery Rhyme, ‘Humpty Dumpty.’ Humpty Dumpty is a great character who enjoys sitting on a wall, however, he often falls off. We focused on the Humpty Dumpty rhyme learning the keywords of ‘Egg, Wall, Fall, Cracked, King, Horses,’ using actions and puppet props to support our understanding. We have also been looking at Humpty’s emotions as he falls off the wall. Is he happy? Is he sad? Pre-Nursery children enjoyed drawing a sad face on Humpty on the IWB. Pre-Nursery have also had fun learning to construct walls on a large scale, knocking them down so Humpty falls off, and investigating the art of egg rolling. Pre-Nursery used their counting skills to count until the egg stops rolling. We asked the question, ‘How quickly can an egg roll down a ramp and will it smash?’

Nursery
This week is the last week of our ‘Traditional Tales’ topic and we enjoyed reading the story of 'The Elves and the Shoemaker.' During the week the children talked about what happened in the story and used their talk boards to record what they could see in a picture scene from the story. In Maths we used prepositional language such as 'in,' 'on' and 'behind' to describe the positions of the elves around our classroom. We also developed our fine motor skills whilst threading laces into shoes and created our own magical shoes, it was so much fun! Earlier in the week the children learnt about Valentine’s Day and made a lovely decoration to take home.

Reception
We hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing Lunar New Year break! We have welcomed the children back to school and they have settled in very well into their daily routines.
In Phonics this week we have been reviewing all our Phase 2 Phonetic letters and sounds and have been continuing practicing blending and writing simple words. We read the story ‘Owls and Dinosaurs’ and have had the children describe their dinosaurs and write out simple sentences. In order to support their learning, we recommend you continue practicing the letter sounds and blending them as well as sounding them out with your children at home with the reading books we send home every Friday.

In Maths we have reviewed several concepts and focused on the properties of 3D shapes, including how many faces they each have. The children enjoyed learning and deepening their understanding through outdoor games.

This will be our last week studying dinosaurs and we have discussed dinosaur environments and what fossils and skeletons are. We are excited to wrap up our topic by exploring the Natural History Museum next week. You will receive an email with all the details shortly!
