This week Key Stage Three students have begun their novel studies in English lessons, with Year Seven reading Louis Sachar’s ‘Holes’, Year Eight reading Susan Hill’s ‘The Woman in Black’, and Year Nine reading George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’. In addition, Year Seven and Eight students have also been continuing their class readers in library lessons, which focus solely on promoting reading for pleasure. 7B have almost finished the Dystopian ‘After Tomorrow’, while 7A have just begun reading ‘The Breadwinner’, and Year Eight are continuing with ‘The Hobbit’. In addition to this, Key Stage Three will have weekly articles to read through the website Readworks.org, which will allow teachers to track the reading progress of their students. The English department is really pleased that we now have students across Key Stage Three reading much more widely.
