It has been a wonderful week in Early Years where the children have enjoyed spending time exploring outdoors. With the warmer weather now here, we kindly request that your child attends school each day with a hat to keep them safe from the sun when learning in our outdoor learning spaces.
Pre-Nursery
This week Pre-Nursery have enjoyed learning the rhyme ‘Hickory Dickory Dock’. In this rhyme, a small mouse likes to run up and down the clock. We have focused on making the ‘tick, tock’ sound of the clock and learning the meaning of ‘up’ and ‘down’. Pre-Nursery have explored time through this rhyme whilst exploring a clock and sequencing daily events. We have used our arm movements to explore how the hands on a clock move round, and made our own clocks and mice!
Nursery
It has been a wonderful and full week of learning in Nursery as we have started a new learning journey called ‘In the Garden’. Nursery have started this off by reading ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar.’ We have enjoyed hearing about all of the different foods the caterpillar ate throughout this story, often commenting on what we would eat if we were a hungry caterpillar! Nursery got excited about the transformation part of the story where the caterpillar changes into the butterfly.
As part of our Maths learning, Nursery have been exploring and revisiting simple addition, by adding more food objects from the story together to see how the result changes.
Reception
Reception have enjoyed beginning their new topic this week, ‘Ready, Steady, Sow!’ The children explored different flowers, describing each and talking about which they liked and why. We used the rhyme ‘Mary, Mary Quite Contrary,’ as the basis for our writing and wrote our own rhymes. In Maths we have developed our knowledge of number bonds to 10 and used loose parts to support us in this.
