Celebrations play a vital role in the development of young children, providing opportunities for social interaction, cultural awareness, and emotional growth. At Britannica Early Years, we cherish these moments that foster a sense of community and belonging.
One of the most special celebrations is birthdays, where we honour each child's individuality and milestones, helping them understand time and growth while building self-esteem and creating lasting memories.
As we embrace autumn, we celebrate the beauty of the season—the crisp, windy weather and the colourful changes in our environment. These seasonal festivities enrich our curriculum and provide meaningful opportunities for growth and connection.
This week, Early Years have been exploring the wonders of autumn. Reception dove into the enchanting story of The Room on the Broom, engaging with rhymes and characters while crafting wands and puppets to bring the story to life. In phonics, we focused on the letter sounds for 'e' and the digraph 'ck', while in Maths, we explored patterns and honed our fine motor skills with scissors.
Meanwhile, Nursery enjoyed the story Pumpkin Soup, learning about teamwork while practising size ordering with pumpkins. They also got creative with the song Dancing Bones, making skeletons using straws and cotton buds.
Pre-Nursery also listened to the story Pumpkin Soup and enjoyed collecting orange items from around the classroom to make their own pumpkin soup. They had fun tapping golf tees into pumpkins and exploring the inside of the pumpkins by pulling and squeezing the flesh, which enhanced their hand-eye coordination and sensory exploration.
Today, we celebrated our ‘Pumpkin Palooza’, and it was wonderful to see all the children dressed up and enjoying activities like apple bobbing, crafts, and games. These celebrations help strengthen connections among children, families, and teachers, promoting inclusivity and understanding. Celebrating together cultivates a strong sense of belonging that supports emotional and social development.
