This week in the secondary school we celebrated Humanities Week. The intention for the week was to encourage students to think more about the world around them and challenge their understanding of both the human and physical world past, present and future. In an international school setting, the humanities subjects are a fantastic place to explore different origins and backgrounds of those in our environment, to better understand how all of our differences make us who we are. This week we have looked at linking the human and physical world through a variety of fun and interactive tasks for students to get stuck into.

Students were able to channel their competitive spirit with a variety of different individual challenges with quizzes, GeoGuessr challenges at break times throughout the week. Lots of fun was had and house points given out.

As a form the students had to collect as many used bottle caps as possible. This will later be made into a piece of artwork to help promote recycling and encourage greater stewardship and responsibility for the environment. This has been a core theme of geography lessons in Term 1 where across Key Stage 3 students have explored a variety of challenges facing the planet, and have looked at a variety of ways to encourage sustainability in our daily lives.

The students were also given a creative to create a piece of artwork or a take a photograph with the theme of 'outside'. This allowed the students to think outside the box and there was a vast range of responses, which reflected a great diversity of how the theme was interpreted.
