The tenth issue of the Britannica School Mandarin magazine has once again garnered enthusiastic praise from both teachers and students alike.

With its unique charm, diverse content, and engaging childlike style, the magazine has become a beloved platform for students eager to integrate classroom learning with real-world experiences. The school magazine covers a wide range of topics and forms, making it an invaluable resource that strengthens students' connection to their native language while fostering creativity and expression outside the classroom.

Magazine editing

Aspects of this issue were entirely edited, designed, and revised by the Secondary School students. This hands-on experience provided students an opportunity to not only learn the technical skills of layout and design but also to develop essential life skills such as teamwork and communication. Throughout the process of collaborating on drafts, students gained insights into the nuances of effective communication and how to work harmoniously with their peers.

In managing the manuscripts, students had to read each piece carefully, assess its quality, and make necessary revisions to enhance both readability and accuracy. This editorial process sharpened their word processing skills and fostered critical thinking. By identifying strengths and weaknesses in the language, students enhanced their ability to write with precision and clarity.

magazine teamwork

The teamwork required for the layout and editing of the magazine also taught students the importance of collaborative effort. They had to communicate clearly, delegate tasks, coordinate progress, and navigate differences of opinion. These experiences helped nurture their teamwork spirit and improve their interpersonal communication skills. Furthermore, by interacting with diverse perspectives, students learned to listen actively, respect differing viewpoints, and work towards collective growth.

In summary, participating in the Mandarin magazine production process offers students much more than just language practice. It is a holistic experience that cultivates personal skills, builds self-confidence, and lays a strong foundation for their future academic and professional endeavors. No wonder the Chinese school magazine editing After School Activity remains one of the most popular programs, attracting many of our senior students.
