Physical Education in Primary had a fantastic start to the year. With many familiar and new faces joining our classes, we were thrilled to welcome everyone back after the summer break. The enthusiasm and energy our students bring to each PE lesson has been truly commendable, and as the PE department, we have certainly taken note of this. This term, we are particularly focused on maintaining that high level of engagement throughout our PE sessions. Many students showed significant growth and development over the holiday period, and it is wonderful to see how this has positively impacted their skill levels in certain areas of the physical education curriculum.

The Importance of Physical Education in Young Learners

PE is essential for young students as it promotes overall physical health and fitness, aiding in the development of motor skills through activities that enhance coordination and balance. Additionally, PE fosters social skills by encouraging teamwork and communication, while also boosting emotional well-being by reducing anxiety and enhancing self-esteem. The cognitive benefits include improved concentration and memory, which positively impact academic performance. Furthermore, early exposure to various physical activities instills a love for movement, encouraging lifelong healthy habits. At Britannica, we reward our students during assemblies each week for their good habits in PE in the form of HABITS bands. Each letter represents a habit that we would like to see during our lessons: Hard work, Activeness, Boldness, Integrity, Tolerance, and Support are all important HABITS in PE lessons. Overall, PE equips students with the discipline and goal-setting skills necessary for personal growth and a balanced lifestyle.
