In this week’s Secondary assembly, the students commemorated Remembrance Day. This is an international event held every November, during which we remember those who have died in wars and share our hopes for a peaceful future. Remembrance Day was first commemorated in 1919, after the end of the First World War. Since then, the event has grown to commemorate all wars. It is observed in many countries around the world, including Britain, the USA, Russia, France, India, and dozens more.

During the assembly, our students learned about the history of Remembrance Day and why the poppy has become its symbol. They also learned about the different types of poppies, from the traditional red poppy, to the white poppy representing peace, and even the purple poppy that represents the animals that have served and died in wars.

Finally, the students created their own poppies using origami paper. It was impressive to see how many poppies our students made in such a short time! Some students even made poppies in their own time. We hope that the students will reflect on the meaning of past conflicts, and that they will be part of a more peaceful future.
