As we wrap up an eventful Spring Term, we take a moment to celebrate the incredible achievements and learning experiences across our Primary Year groups. From exciting field trips, parent Maths lessons and our KS2 musical, our students have truly made the most of their time. Here’s a look at the highlights from each year group:

Year 1

The Spring Term has been an exciting and fruitful one for our Year 1 students, filled with memorable experiences and learning opportunities. A standout moment was our school trip to the Ice Park, where the children enjoyed experiencing the winter cold of "The North Pole," fostering teamwork and resilience as they imagined themselves as explorers.

Maths Week was another highlight, bringing parents into the classrooms for engaging activities that showcased their children's learning. It was heartwarming to see the enthusiasm as students incorporated Maths into their lessons, culminating in a Science lesson focused on teamwork and problem-solving skills to create a bridge.

Additionally, students had various opportunities to showcase their theatrical skills with class assemblies and the Spring Bonnet Parade. Seeing their wonderful performances after dedicated practice was a fantastic way to celebrate their progress in English speaking and confidence.

Year 2

This term, our focus on descriptive writing has allowed the children to delve into the enchanting world of storytelling through the text "The Tin Forest." Utilising the Talk for Writing approach, students not only engaged with the narrative but also crafted their own innovative versions, showcasing their creativity and understanding of plot development. Through this process, they learned to enhance their descriptive language, enriching their stories with vivid imagery and emotional depth.

In addition to narrative writing, Year 2 explored the fascinating realm of non-fiction through non-chronological reports. The children examined various articles and texts about their favourite or intriguing animals, gaining insights into their unique characteristics and habitats. By applying the features of non-fiction texts, they successfully created their own reports, demonstrating their ability to convey factual information in an organized and engaging manner.

Year 3

In Year 3 this Spring term, students excelled in creating Non-Chronological reports, integrating English, Topic, and ICT to explore various European countries and their cultures. They learned to identify key report features and innovatively presented their findings using the Talk4Writing method.

Additionally, Maths Week was a standout event, where students taught lessons to their parents, showcasing their learning in an engaging way. In Science, they investigated light properties and shadows, while a Spanish Food and Culture Trip added excitement, allowing students to enjoy traditional tapas and the film Coco. They also enjoyed a guided tour of the restaurant, exploring its unique decor and art, which enriched their understanding of Spanish culture.

Year 4

Spring Term for Year 4 has been yet another eventful period, crammed full of new learning and exciting activities! Our trip to the Chocolate factory was a significant highlight as the children gained a greater understanding of fair trade whilst filling their bellies with delicious chocolate!

Creating solar powered robots, coding CuteBots and teaching our Year 4 parents all about fractions also make the highlight reel for a fabulous Spring Term! We look forward to more fun and learning after the holiday!

Year 5

Year 5 have enjoyed a very busy term with much progress and focus to succeed across the curriculum. One particular highlight of this term has been our collection of different topics in English from hard-hitting news reports and far-away fiction set in Africa to our final topic about a fictional animal hybrid based around ‘The Sneaglegator’. Children have impressed with their ability to shine within a range of genres and enjoyed being creative with their vocabulary while developing grammar skills. They have learned so many new skills that really shone through within our recent end-of-term tests. We could not be happier! Everyone is now looking forward to our new topic, which will see children become authors of their very own short scary story!

As we close this term and look forward to the next, we commend all of our Primary students for their hard work and dedication to their learning.
