As we welcome our students back for the Summer Term at Britannica International School, we embark on an exciting and vital period of growth and learning. This term is crucial for our students' development and preparation as they transition into the next academic year, allowing them to solidify their knowledge and skills gained so far while exploring new horizons.

Throughout this term, each year group has planned special events and projects that will enhance their learning experiences and provide them with engaging opportunities to discover more about themselves and the world around them.

Year 1

In Year 1, students will begin to write their own descriptive stories, using the beloved classic "Knuffle Bunny" as an example. This is a great opportunity for them to unleash their creativity and enhance their writing skills. Additionally, they will learn about a key historical event, The Great Fire of London. Through this study, they will plot the events on different timelines and understand the significant impact this event had on fire safety regulations and the transformation of London itself.

Year 2

Year 2 will focus on exploring our local and global environment, diving into essential topics such as climate change, recycling, endangered animals, being water wise, and renewable energy. This exploration will empower students to understand the importance of sustainability and their role in protecting our planet. Through discussions, projects, and hands-on activities, students will develop critical thinking skills and a sense of responsibility toward the environment.

Year 3

Year 3 students will embark on an exciting journey back in time as they explore Ancient Egypt. They will delve into the rich history and civilisation of this fascinating era, learning about pharaohs, the construction of pyramids, and the mysteries of mummies. Additionally, they will investigate the significance of the Nile River in daily life and how it shaped the ancient Egyptians' culture and society.

Year 4

In Year 4, students will engage in cross-curricular writing as they research and create structured biographies about chosen world leaders. This unit will provide them with a comprehensive understanding of non-fictional texts and teach them how to write factually while capturing the reader’s interest. This exploration not only enhances their writing abilities but also broadens their understanding of important historical figures and their contributions to society.

Year 5

Year 5 students will dive into the rich ecosystems of tropical rainforests, identifying regions of the world where these stunning environments are located. They will explore the different layers of the rainforests and investigate the climate needed for these ecosystems to thrive. A significant aspect of this topic will be researching a chosen rainforest animal, allowing students to understand its role within the ecosystem while learning about the term ‘indigenous’ and the importance of biodiversity.

Residential Experiences for Years 3, 4, and 5

Additionally, all Year 3, 4, and 5 students will have the opportunity to participate in enriching residential experiences. These outings are designed to foster independence, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation of the natural world. Through various activities and challenges, students will learn valuable life skills and forge lasting friendships as they share these memorable experiences together.

As we embark on this Summer Term, we encourage all students to fully engage with the opportunities that lie ahead. It is a time for exploration, creativity, and growth that will set the foundation for their future success. Let’s work together to make this term a memorable and impactful experience for everyone at Britannica International School!
