Roland was born and raised in South Africa, though claiming dual citizenship through his German and South African heritages. He attended the traditional and prestigious all boys school, S.A.C.S (The South African College School), progressing on to graduate from the University of Cape Town for all of his further education.
In 2014, Roland became a teacher in South Africa, teaching for 3 years before moving to China to further his teaching career. He initially moved to Beijing, where he taught in the international division of a selective primary school for just under 5 years. Continuing on to Shanghai, Roland is now in his third year of teaching the British Curriculum.
In his teaching career, Roland has taken on many roles and responsibilities. He has developed English curriculum, twice been promoted to Department Head positions for language and has led cross-curricular development through STEAM projects. His goals are to constantly adapt and improve himself and his environment for the betterment of all of his students.
