MA Early Childhood Education, BA, BS

Nellie was born and raised in Iowa, USA. She completed her undergraduate degree at Iowa State University and began her career in Minneapolis, MN, teaching mathematics for one school year. In 2006, she made the exciting move to China to teach English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Nellie discovered her true passion for teaching when she started working with nursery-age children in Shanghai in 2009. Her dedication to developmentally appropriate practice led her to pursue a master's degree in early childhood education in 2011. Since then, she has taught nursery, reception, and Year 1, while also specializing in early literacy and phonics for bilingual children.

This is Nellie’s first year at Britannica, and she is thrilled to bring her enthusiasm for play-based and child-led learning into her classroom. She looks forward to inspiring her students and fostering a love for learning through being curious and exploring the natural world.
