Britannica’s parent company, Orbital Education is always looking to see what we can learn, how we can improve the education that we provide to our students and, in turn, enhance their successes and opportunities. With an increasing range of A level subjects available we have been challenged to provide the same breadth of options in our smaller schools as in our larger schools. Our experience of delivering excellent schooling online, gained throughout 2020, has provided us with the opportunity to adapt our thinking and we are proud to be offering online A levels from September 2021 to complement those available in school.
Our sixth form students will have the option of selecting one online subject to study in addition to those currently available at their school. Teachers have been carefully selected as some of our best subject practitioners who have developed expert online teaching skills and are adept at coaching and motivating students from a distance. Students will continue to study in school with access to the full range of tutors and facilities that encourage success.
The range of online A levels has been identified to include those that are most sought after across the group but not taught in every school. The initial offering of subjects includes Business Studies, Further Maths, Psychology, French, German, Italian, Mandarin, and Spanish. The wide range of languages on offer recognises that many of our students are global citizens, have lived in multiple countries and plan to live and work internationally whilst Further Maths provides an additional challenge for our most able mathematicians.
Commenting on the launch David Pottinger, CEO of Orbital Education said, “We believe that this combination of online learning within the structure and support of a school environment will provide the best of both worlds for our students and we look forward to expanding the options available in future years.”
