This week we celebrated the success of a number of our students in the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge. The UKMT Maths Challenges test students’ Mathematical skills to solve interesting problems, with questions designed to make students think creatively and put their fluency in Mathematical techniques to use in different ways.
The Junior Maths Challenge is for students in Years 6 – 8, and we were delighted that more than half of our students received certificates recognising their ability, which is above average for the schools that participated. Our Year 6 students performed particularly well, achieving one Gold, two Silvers and three Bronzes from seven students who took part, especially considering they were competing against students older than themselves. This is a credit to the hard work they have been doing in lessons, resiliently working on their problem solving skills.
A special mention goes to our Gold Certificate students, David Yang, Biah Kim, Steven Hsieh, Risa Wang, Chihiro Jin and Amy Zhang. Gold certificates are only awarded to the most able Mathematicians who take part, and represent tremendous Mathematical understanding.
