At Britannica, one of our core values is 'respect.' During the Early Years, children undergo significant development in their social and emotional skills, forming the foundation for their future interactions and relationships. Fostering respect not only creates a positive and inclusive learning environment but also shapes children into empathetic and considerate individuals.
Teachers and parents play a vital role in instilling respect during the Early Years. They have the responsibility to model respectful behavior and provide ample opportunities for children to practice it themselves. This involves teaching empathy, active listening and valuing others' opinions. Engaging in activities that promote teamwork, cooperation and celebrating differences also contributes to the development of respectful attitudes. We strive to embed these values within our daily practice.
This week in Pre-Nursery, the children have been captivated by the story of 'The 3 Little Pigs.' Through props and actions, they have been actively retelling the story and focusing on the keywords they learned earlier. These activities have not only nurtured their creative skills through painting and crafting pigs but also reinforced numeracy concepts by counting and recognizing the number 3 in their environment. Nursery have been exploring the sounds they encounter in speech, rhymes and their everyday surroundings. Taking advantage of outdoor opportunities, they have been actively listening to different noises, which inspired the reading of 'Peace at Last.' This story about Daddy Bear's struggle to sleep due to various sounds at night promotes early phonics skills and develops their auditory perception. Reception have developed their Critical Thinking skills which have been cultivated through the interpretation and discussion of Gail Adams' artwork, 'Penguins on Ice.' The children shared their thoughts and engaged in dialogue, actively listening to others' ideas while creating their own interpretations.
We invite you to our upcoming Open House next Tuesday, where you can observe and participate in your child's learning journey. It is through these collaborative efforts between parents and the school community that we reinforce the value of respect and empower children to become respectful individuals who positively contribute to our world.
