At Britannica International School, music is playing a key role in helping students grow in confidence and creativity while having fun. By playing instruments and working together in musical groups, students are learning important skills like teamwork, listening, and coordination. Music allows them to express themselves, try new things, and build resilience—all while discovering the joy of making music with others.
In Year 1, students are embarking on a musical journey through the topic of travel, focusing on the xylophone. They are learning basic melodies and rhythms that reflect different places and ideas of movement, building confidence in playing and understanding musical patterns.
Year 2 students are working on a lively Congolese children’s song called "Si Si Si," where they are practicing singing in canon (rounds). This is helping them develop their sense of harmony and timing as they sing in groups. The song will be performed at the upcoming Pumpkin Palooza, giving them a chance to showcase their progress.
In Year 3, students are exploring ensemble pieces from around the world, including music from Korea, Uganda, and Scotland. These diverse styles are allowing them to experiment with rhythms and melodies while learning to play together as a class, enhancing cultural appreciation and teamwork.
In Years 4 and 5, students are focusing on musical elements, working on their own three-piece compositions. This unit is encouraging creativity and a deeper understanding of music, from rhythm and melody to dynamics.
Primary students are also preparing their class Christmas songs for the winter show, where they will share the festive spirit and enjoy performing with friends.
Our music program is giving students the freedom to experiment, learn, and grow in a supportive and engaging environment.
